The California Water Plan (PDF) is the State's strategic plan for sustainably managing and developing water resources for current and future generations.

Required by Water Code Section (a), it presents the status and trends of California’s water-dependent natural resources; water supplies; and agricultural, urban, and environmental water demands for a range of plausible future.

The Statewide Water Planning Program was established to update the California Water Plan, required every five years by the Water Code. The Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of (Proposition 84) made funds available to implement a number of recommendations from California Water Plan Update The Central Valley Flood Protection Plan (CVFPP) is California's strategic blueprint to improve flood risk management in the Central Valley.
